Research art project due to the residency in HELLERAU European Centre for the Arts in Dresden 2022-2023.
“Belonging” is a way of exploring meaning of identity, self - identity, connections between deep and usually forgotten past of your family and nation, and connections between present reality you are implemented unexpectably because of war. Since the war in Ukraine stated on 24.02.2022, I moved to Europe, and now live in a remote small spa city among German forests - Bad Liebenstein.
Those installations show, for the very beginning, silent dialog which appeared between environment, nature, new spaces and me, my Ukrainian identity, which I felt stronger than ever when I am far from homeland. Objects which I choose to work with are connected with my national deep traditions, inspired by Ukrainian ancient symbols, which can speak instead of me, with me, opening new sides of my inner world and identity, and probably open something deep but forgotten in you, even if you are not Ukrainian and know nothing about it. Those objects are like aliens among those new landscapes.
How does the space communicate with this unknown and weird forms, does this connection make sense and create a new reality? Do they find a harmony?
It is a simple metaphor of refugee being, of human being in general. When you feel like an alien, like a character from completely another play implemented to “somewhere”. But it is also about treads which connect you with the past, even forgotten one.
